Day 7

The first week has been very challenging.  It started off well with me getting up early to bike and exercise. But, by day 3, I discovered that my bike has a flat tire.

So now it's day 7 and my bike still sits in the garage with a flat tire while I sit here not really exercising.  I was eating much better, staying under my daily calorie limit according to Lose It! so that was a positive.  But in my head, I knew I wasn't getting much activity in and that I probably wouldn't lose much weight.  But hey, at least I'm starting to make that lifestyle change of food and for me, that's the biggest hurdle.

But I stepped on the scale this morning and since day 1 I have lost...4.4 pounds! I couldn't believe it.  Not only had I lost weight, but I had lost 3 pounds more than I had planned.  I understand that it was mostly water weight and that I won't be able to do this every week, but for me it was a great motivator to see that my food decisions are paying off.  Hopefully as we buy more healthy items when we shop, this will become easier.

And hopefully I can get my bike fixed very soon!

Day 1

Weighed in today to start my 52 in 52 at 268 pounds.  Yuck.  I'm 6'0" tall and that's not a good weight to be at.  I'm probably at least 100 lbs over weight, without even looking it up. Here are some starting out photos.  Shield your eyes from my fat belly.

A few friends have decided to start a Biggest Loser competition, or as they like to call it, a "fat man" contest.  Every one put in 20 bucks and who ever loses the biggest % over the next year wins. Hopefully that serves as another motivator to keep this up.

Went for a bike ride this morning.  It was pretty pitiful. It was the first time I've gone for a bike ride in a long time.  I went last night to put air in the tires and made sure the seat height was correct. Well, as I was riding it felt like I was dragging the bike.  I checked the tires again this morning and they seemed ok, at least they weren't flat.  So I'm going to check the seat height again tonight.

So here we go.  I'm starting at 268 so my goal on July 18, 2011 is 214 lbs. Go me!

Welcome

So I've decided to start this blog to try and keep me honest and engaged in my trek to lose a pound a week for the next year. I hopefully will be posting pics and updates of my journey so that I can hold myself accountable for losing the weight.

How am I going to do it? I plan on using the iPhone app, LoseIt! to track my calories and exercise, which is a great app and is free. I also plan on starting off by biking and hopefully adding in running.  Hopefully by next year I'll be ready to run my first 5K in about 15 years.

So that's me and what I hope to do here.  I'm officially starting my 52 weeks on Monday, July 19, 2010 and by July 19, 2011 I'll be at least 52 pounds lighter.  Wish me luck!
